A Message From Your President

Happy Spring to all DNA 30 members! It is May and that means a new Board for DNA 30. I would like to take a moment to introduce our new board members, reflect on the past year and start setting goals for the coming year.

2013-2014 Board:

In looking back, we had a productive year in 2012-2013. Thanks to our treasurer Cate McGraw, we established a “Service to the Community” program where we are encouraging members to give back. We have participated in Adopt-A-Highway, donated to Denver Care Ring and will be volunteering with Project Cure in the June. If you have a community service project you’d like to recommend please contact Cate McGraw (catemcgraw@yahoo.com).

Additionally, we awarded scholarships this year to Nancy Kunzie to attend the AANP national conference, awarded two AANP conference scholarships to Board members and contributed $3000 to the Colorado Nursing Foundation for the PhD scholarship. We also reimbursed members for attending the CNA convention and donated several thousand dollars to the CNA Legal Defense Fund.

This was a quiet legislative year for advanced practice nurses so not much to comment on from this standpoint.

The Board is in the process of setting goals for the year 2013-2014. We anticipate mirroring the ANA’s new strategic plan by adopting some of the programmatic pillars that are pertinent to APN’s (Leadership, Cornerstone Documents, Scope of Practice, Care Innovation, Quality, Healthy Nurse, Advocacy & Professional Development). You will be hearing more about these goals in the next month. In the meantime, the Board would like to hear from you, the membership, as to what YOUR goals and needs are for DNA-30 this year.
