Pertussis (whooping cough), caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis, can lead to high risk complications in infants. In 2012, 219 people were diagnosed with pertussis in Denver, nearly five times the number of cases seen in 2011. In 2013, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended that pregnant women receive the Tdap vaccine during 27-36 weeks of gestation in every pregnancy, optimizing the transportation of antibodies across the placenta from mother to infant. Tdap vaccination during the third trimester is safe for both the mom and the baby and is approximately 90% effective. Join our webinar on April 6, 2016 from 12:00-1:00 PM (MST) to learn how to implement this process in your practice and receive a COPIC point for the completed training.
