UNP 22nd Annual Pharmacology Conference

Overview:

This course is designed to meet the continuing education needs of advanced practice nurses. There will be an intense review and update of new pharmacological agents. Discussion of drugs and treatment modalities relating to specific illnesses will be reviewed at length. Drug actions, indications for use, contraindications, and side effects will be presented.

Objectives:

• Explain basic pharmacological and pharmacokinetic principles as they relate to devising a proper therapeutic regimen.
• Select an appropriate therapeutic treatment plan for a given patient condition.
• Determine appropriate use for new pharmacologic agents.

Credit:

• This program is approved for 9.0 contact hour(s) of continuing education (which includes 8.25 hours of pharmacology) by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Program ID 1503174. This program was planned in accordance with AANP CE Standards and Policies and AANP Commercial Support Standards.
• ER/LA Opioid REMS: Achieving Safe Use While Improving Patient Care is provided by the Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation. 3.0 contact hours in Nursing CE.

Featured Speakers:

Alan P. Agins, Ph.D. holds a BS in psychology from the State University of New York (Brockport), a Master's in Pharmacology & Toxicology and a Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Rhode Island. He has held faculty appointments at Brown Medical School, Northeastern University School of Pharmacy and University of Virginia School of Nursing.

Over the past 17 years, Dr. Agins has lectured nationally to more than 70,000 advanced practice clinicians and allied health professionals. He is a regularly invited speaker at annual conferences for a number of national, regional and state nursing organizations. Dr. Agins has contributed to various journals, continuing education monographs and pharmacology textbooks as a writer and reviewer. He has authored 3 books and has written and "starred" in a series of entertaining online educational video clips to support nursing pharmacology textbooks (Elsevier). Alan also currently presents weekly live CE webinars for pharmacists through RxSchool (AMN Healthcare), writes a monthly e-Newsletter for Lexi-Comp and makes his wife lunch every day.

The event will take place on Friday night. Come learn how to influence health care and advance NP practice through the legislative and regulatory processes.
