Public health concern of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and Universal Screening

In this presentation we will address the public health concern of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and how Universal Screening can improve patient care through established screening guidelines. We will discuss symptomatic STI testing, management for Trichomoniasis, testing and treatment recommendations for Mycoplasma genitalium.

Dr. Shruti Bala is a board-certified obstetrician gynecologist with a broad range of experience in
clinical practice, medical education, and organizational leadership. She completed her medical
training at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix and her residency in
Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She is currently the
Medical Director for the Ob/Gyn Group at a federally qualified health center in Tucson, Arizona,
and services as the Department Chair for her community hospital. She has a master’s in public
health and continues to incorporate her passion for population health and health disparities in her
clinical endeavors. She enjoys working in high-volume/high-risk labor and delivery units and
advanced laparoscopic/robotic surgery. She is a determined team player who is able to
collaborate with other medical staff and is committed to providing excellent patient care.
Her hobbies include spending time outside whether it is for a hike or enjoying an Arizona sunset.
She is a lifelong vegetarian and loves to explore new recipes in the kitchen. Her passions include
traveling, exploring new restaurants, and finding unique pieces at estate sales.
